Tiếng Việt 123 Level A is a 186-page beginner coursebook for adults starting Vietnamese, especially learners who want practical language for everyday life. Its 16 lessons cover introductions, age, home, shopping, time, hobbies, directions, restaurants, weather, hotels, and health.
Each lesson brings together a dialogue, vocabulary, grammar, and phonetics, with explanations in Vietnamese and English. You also get three review units and five short illustrated culture readings. Free companion recordings cover pronunciation material, every lesson, and the reviews in both Northern and Southern voices, so the book supports listening as well as print study.
The structure is clear and the grammar examples are useful for reference. Still, this is closer to a classroom coursebook than a complete self-study package. Practice in the main book is limited, and an independent teacher review found the later grammar sequence less organized. You will get more from it with the separate workbook, a teacher, or a speaking partner.
