This is a free public-domain FSI course hosted by Live Lingua. It is a 247-page Vietnamese study manual aimed at beginners, especially learners who want a structured, old-school introduction to Southern Vietnamese and do not mind a drill-heavy approach.

The book is organized into 12 lessons plus emergency phrases and a Vietnamese-English glossary. Each lesson uses dialogues, notes, drills, and exercises, with a strong focus on guided imitation and automatic speaking habits. That makes it useful if you like repeating patterns until they feel natural. It also gives you grammar support and practical vocabulary instead of only phrase memorization.

What it does well is structure. You get a clear progression and plenty of repetition, which can help with pronunciation, sentence patterns, and confidence producing basic Vietnamese. The downside is that it feels dated and academic compared with newer learner materials. Live Lingua also lists this familiarization course without audio, so it works better as a text-based supplement than as a complete standalone speaking program.
