Book Cover for Learning Vietnamese

This is a beginner Vietnamese textbook for adults who want a structured course instead of an app. Tuttle lists it as a 192-page paperback by Bắc Hoài Trần, published in late 2022, with free online audio and downloadable flashcards. If you like learning step by step from a book, it gives you a clear place to start and works for self-study or classroom use.

What you actually get is a pronunciation guide followed by 13 lesson chapters. The downloadable audio page shows each chapter is built around two dialogues, vocabulary sections, pattern practice, and exercises. Tuttle also says the book includes cultural notes, grammar and sentence structure explanations, etiquette tips, and a small dictionary at the back. That makes it more complete than a simple phrasebook, especially if you want reading support along with listening and speaking practice. You can see the book on Tuttle's product page and the companion materials on their downloadable content page.

The main tradeoff is that it is still a traditional textbook. You can practice with the audio and drills, but it will not give you real conversation feedback, and it does not look aimed at intermediate or advanced learners. The flashcards are a helpful extra, but they are not the main focus. I also could not verify a clearly stated dialect focus from the official material, so this is best treated as a general beginner course rather than a dialect-specific one.
