Image for Vietnam Now! A Vietnamese Language Reader

This is a bilingual Vietnamese-English reader for learners who want more than short textbook dialogues. It is best for learners who already know some basics and want guided reading practice with real content about contemporary Vietnam. If you like learning through articles instead of a traditional lesson-by-lesson course, this book fits that role well.

The book includes 28 newspaper articles, one short story, and two poems, with Vietnamese and English shown side by side. The texts are grouped from easier to harder, and each selection comes with vocabulary lists, grammar and culture notes, exercises, photos, and online audio. That makes it more supportive than a plain reader and gives you ways to work on both reading and listening.

What it does well is context. You get current topics, everyday life, and a feel for how Vietnamese is used outside beginner dialogues. The tradeoff is that it is still a reader, not a full beginner course. If you are starting from zero, the authentic texts may feel heavy even with translations and notes. It is strongest as a follow-up resource after an intro textbook or alongside a class or tutor.
