Tandem

Tandem is a language exchange app where you practice Vietnamese by talking with real people who speak it natively. It is best for learners who want conversation practice and don’t mind reaching out to strangers to start chats.

You build a profile, search for partners by language and interests, and then practice through text messages, voice notes, and audio or video calls. Tandem also includes tools like message correction and in-app translation to keep conversations moving when you get stuck. You can also join group audio spaces called Parties.

The free version is enough to try the core experience, while the Pro subscription adds more learning tools and fewer limits, including an AI toolkit, unlimited translations, and audio message transcripts. What it does not give you is a structured Vietnamese course, so you’ll progress most if you bring your own goals, topics, and a bit of patience when finding good partners.
