DLI Vietnamese Basic Language Course

This is a free set of DLI Vietnamese course books hosted by Live Lingua. You get scanned PDF volumes plus matching audio for a long, structured basic course. It suits self-study learners who want lots of guided drills and don't mind older textbook style materials.

The main value is the amount of content. Live Lingua lists multiple ebook volumes, dozens of audio tracks, and a built-in pronunciation recorder. The lessons are designed to build listening, speaking, reading, and grammar through repetition, substitution drills, dialogs, and translation-style exercises. If you like working through a curriculum step by step, there is plenty here to keep you busy.

The catch is that this is old material. The original DLI book itself says the course was compiled before 1975, with a 1981 revision, so some wording and usage feel dated. The PDFs are scanned training manuals, not modern learner books, so explanations can feel dry and intensive. You also will not get real conversation practice or feedback unless you pair it with a tutor or language partner. Still, if you want a serious free foundation and lots of listen and repeat practice, it is useful.
