Street Interviews
Seven short street interview videos from Ho Chi Minh City with Vietnamese and English subtitles for real-world listening practice.
Actually Understand Vietnamese is a listening-first YouTube channel for beginners and intermediate learners. Most videos use Southern Vietnamese and are labeled by difficulty, with playlists for total beginners, A1-A2 learners, and intermediate study.
You learn through short stories, role-plays, daily-life vlogs, cultural outings, and focused vocabulary scenes. Native speakers talk slowly and use gestures, objects, drawings, and visual context to make the Vietnamese understandable. Vietnamese and English subtitle tracks let you listen first, then check what you missed.
It works well as regular listening and vocabulary practice, especially if textbook dialogues feel too artificial. The tradeoff is that the channel is not a complete course. There is little step-by-step grammar teaching, no speaking feedback, and no built-in practice beyond replaying, shadowing, or studying the captions yourself.
No single resource works for everyone. Discover similar resources to Actually Understand Vietnamese that the community has found helpful. Compare and explore to find the best fit for your Vietnamese learning journey.
