Pimsleur

Pimsleur Vietnamese is a paid beginner course you use through the Pimsleur website or app. It is built around 30 daily audio lessons that focus on listening and speaking first, so it fits learners who want spoken basics for travel, family, or everyday conversation more than textbook-style study. Pimsleur says this course teaches the contemporary Hanoi, or Northern, dialect.

The main course is about 15 hours of audio, with each lesson designed for about 30 minutes. The Premium version adds reading lessons, digital flashcards, quizzes, review games, and Speak Easy conversation practice. There is also Voice Coach with AI pronunciation feedback, which is useful if you want extra speaking practice beyond repeating the lesson prompts.

What it does well is structure and routine. You always know what to do next, and the audio-first format can be easy to keep up with. The main limitation is depth. Vietnamese currently has one 30-lesson level on Pimsleur, so you will likely outgrow it if you want a longer course, detailed grammar, or broader vocabulary. It works best as a solid starting point, not a complete long-term program.
