Description
Pimsleur Vietnamese is an audio-first course inside the Pimsleur mobile app for complete beginners. It teaches the contemporary Hanoi, or Northern, dialect through 30 guided lessons of about 30 minutes each. You listen to native speakers, answer prompts aloud, and build practical phrases through spaced recall.
The Premium version adds reading lessons, 300 digital flashcards, 300 Quick Match questions, 30 Speak Easy role-plays, vocabulary packs, and Voice Coach feedback for pronunciation. Lessons can be downloaded for offline study, while hands-free and car modes suit commutes or walks.
Its main strength is disciplined listening and speaking practice without needing a partner. The tradeoff is scope. Vietnamese stops after one 30-lesson level, so it will not carry you far beyond the basics. Grammar is learned mostly through examples rather than detailed explanations. The cheapest subscription is audio-only, so reading and interactive tools require Premium.
