Native Word Audio

Forvo is a crowdsourced pronunciation dictionary. If you’re learning Vietnamese and want to hear how a word sounds from real native speakers, it’s a quick way to check pronunciation before you practice out loud.

You search a word and get one or more user recordings, often labeled with the speaker’s country and gender, plus voting and favorites. Many entries let you download an MP3, which is handy for offline study or making your own audio notes. Start from the Vietnamese section on Forvo’s Vietnamese page.

What it does well is give you lots of real voice examples, including names and place names that textbooks skip. Where it falls short is teaching. It won’t walk you through Vietnamese sounds or tones step by step, and quality can vary because recordings are user submitted. It’s best as a pronunciation check alongside a course or tutor, not as your main learning method.
