Description

Vietphonics is a free website for learners who need help hearing Vietnamese clearly. It is built for pronunciation training rather than full language study, so it fits beginners, heritage learners, and anyone who keeps mixing up tones or similar sounds.

The main activity is audio drilling. You listen to a clip, choose the tone or sound you heard, then compare it with the other options. The site also has reference pages for tones, vowels, and consonants, with short explanations and example words you can tap to hear. You can practise either Northern Hanoi or Southern Saigon pronunciation, which is useful if you want to stick to one dialect from the start.

That narrow focus is both the strength and the limit. It is genuinely useful for ear training and accent awareness, and it is easier to dip into than a full course. But it does not teach grammar or vocabulary in a structured way, and there is no lesson path that takes you beyond pronunciation basics. It works best as a support tool alongside classes, tutoring, or regular listening practice.
