Description

Omniglot's Vietnamese page is a free reference for learners who want a compact introduction to written Vietnamese and pronunciation. It works best as a starting point or quick lookup page, especially if you are learning how Quốc Ngữ represents sounds and tones.

You get a short history of Vietnamese writing, an alphabet and pronunciation chart, notes on spelling patterns, and an overview of tones. Regional differences are identified for Northern, Central, and Southern Vietnamese. A sample passage has separate recordings from speakers in northern and southern Vietnam, and the page also embeds pronunciation and language videos.

The page is useful for comparing spellings and sounds without creating an account. It also links to related Omniglot pages on phrases, numbers, time, dates, colors, and family words. It is not a course, though. There is no lesson sequence, quiz, drill, feedback, or guided speaking practice, so you will need another resource for sustained study.
