Loecsen’s “Learn Vietnamese” is a free, beginner A1 course built around practical situations like greetings, restaurants, transport, and basic conversation. It’s best for travelers and true beginners who want useful phrases fast and want lots of audio to copy.

Lessons are organized into chapters with short sentences, pictures, and native recordings. You typically listen, repeat, and then switch into practice modes and small tests. Dialect-wise, Loecsen uses standard Northern Vietnamese as its reference and explicitly points out common Southern variants when they matter, which is helpful if you’ll hear both. The main limitation is depth: it’s great for survival Vietnamese and pronunciation reps, but it won’t take you far into natural conversation, writing, or advanced grammar.
