Language Survival Kit Modules (Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center)
Survival Phrase Audio
DLIFLC’s Vietnamese Language Survival Kit Modules are a set of quick-reference phrase lists built for people who need practical phrases fast, especially in work or deployment-style situations. If you want a free “say this in Vietnamese” toolkit rather than a full course, this fits well.
You pick a module from the main menu on the official page and work line by line. Each entry gives English, a romanized pronunciation guide, Vietnamese in script, and a play button for audio on every phrase. Modules cover basics like greetings, numbers, directions, food, emergency terms, and more specialized topics like commands, interrogation, ranks, and mine warfare.
It’s most useful for listening and speaking confidence with set phrases, and for building situational vocabulary. The tradeoff is that it does not teach grammar, give feedback, or help you build original sentences. The romanization is also its own system, so you may prefer to rely on the Vietnamese spelling plus audio once you know the basics. Start here: Vietnamese Language Survival Kit Modules.
