Continuing Vietnamese

Continuing Vietnamese is a second-year textbook by Dr. Bình Như Ngô (Harvard) for learners who already have a solid beginner foundation and want a structured path into early intermediate Vietnamese.

You get 10 lessons, each split into a conversational dialogue section based on Vietnamese as spoken in Hanoi and a more formal narrative reading section. Lessons include vocabulary, grammar and usage notes, exercises, and cultural notes on modern Vietnam. The publisher page is on Tuttle’s website.

Audio is a big part of the package, with about 10 hours covering dialogues and readings plus extra material like explanations and pronunciation drills. That’s helpful for listening and shadowing, but it’s still a book-first course, so you will need to create your own speaking practice and review plan if you are self-studying.
