Learning Vietnamese

Learning Vietnamese is a beginner textbook by Bac Hoai Tran (Tuttle Publishing). It is best if you want a structured, paper based course you can work through at home, with audio to copy and repeat.

The book is organized into 13 chapters built around practical dialogues, vocabulary lists, pattern practice, and exercises. It also includes short notes on pronunciation and tones, basic grammar, and cultural etiquette. Where it shines is giving you lots of controlled practice and a clear path from lesson to lesson, which many apps skip. The tradeoff is that it is still a textbook experience, so you will need to add real conversation practice elsewhere, and the pronunciation help uses phonetic equivalents rather than IPA, which some learners find limiting.
