Parallel Text E-Reader

Links

All Books, All Languages (ABAL) is a browser-based e-reader for learning through parallel texts. You pick two languages and read stories with both versions available as you go, which works well if you learn best by reading instead of doing drills.

The core idea is fast comprehension without leaving the page. You can read side by side and click words you do not know to swap them into your stronger language using its “interlaced text” mode. It also adds pronunciation help that is written using your own language’s alphabet, which can be easier than IPA for many learners.

Content matters here. ABAL has focused on generated short stories so far, with public-domain books planned. That means you get lots of readable material quickly, but the writing and translations can vary by language and story. It is a great add-on to a course, not a replacement for one since it does not teach grammar step by step or give you real conversation practice. Start at abal.ai and read in the app at read.abal.ai.
